Modular Kitchens: Types of Filters

It goes without saying, that chimneys are such an integral part of every kitchen, whether or not modular. A chimney is nothing without its filter. And to know which chimney would suit your kitchen the best, to know which chimney would you like to get from your modular kitchen supplier in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, or any other city, you’d need to know about the filters that are used in them.

Mesh Filter
The name of this filter comes from the fact that it has layers of Aluminium that overlap each other. The holes in the mesh are really small, letting pass air which brings with it grime and oil, that sticks to the filter. This is why a mesh filters need regular cleaning with soap and warm water, at least every fortnight, as they get clogged, affecting the chimney’s performance, reducing the suction power of the chimney. Mesh filter, especially in Indian homes, where the food is cooked with many spices, is a bit high maintenance.

Baffle Filter
Just like mesh filter, this one too has layers of aluminium (or steel) overlapped with each other; but unlike a mesh filter, the layers overlap in a way that changes the direction of airflow. Great for Indian kitchens, baffle filter separates oil and spices from the smoke, making use of ‘cut and chop’ technology. And so, the suction power of the chimney isn’t affected much at all. When it comes to cleaning, it needs to be cleaned every 5 to 6 months. It does get rusted with use, and after 4 to 5 years, the filter would need to be changed.

Charcoal Filters
Very good to absorb odor, this one, just like the name says, uses a block with charcoal granules. The size of those granules and the filter’s thickness is what decides the absorption capacity. Used in ductless chimneys, you might not find these in the in-built ones, but you could get them by paying an extra cost for them. Every 3 to 6 months, depending on how much cooking takes place in the kitchen, you would need to replace the filter, as it can’t be washed.
